"Terrible fortunes befall you this year, and chance events seem to conspire to torment you at every turn." –Continental Tarot

CASTLE EISENHART – ALL the security and safety of the New Kingdom of Ferrice was threatened today at five minutes from midnight. While laboring in his Highness's office, Prince Eltore Mausse Eisenhart was suddenly assaulted by a dagger-wielding female intruder. Thanks to his Highness's martial training, he was able to fend off his attacker until the royal guard arrived. Although the would-be killer managed to flee the scene before she was apprehended, our good Prince's life remains thankfully sound.
IS the Order of the Jeweled Serpent behind this unprecedented assassination attempt? The organization is considered by many to be but an old wives' tale, yet it is the belief of his Highness that it is so. "The woman… wielded a serpentine dagger, and entered the castle through an ingenious disguise beyond the capabilities of any city-state now known," said Prince Eisenhart in a public address at noon today. "It is no stretch to believe that the… serpent has resurfaced in modern times." Before conspiracy theories explode across New Ferricé, however, the Prince urges his subjects to "remain vigilant for further developments."
ACCORDING to writings that date to 60 AF and before, the Order of the Jeweled Serpent is a Continent-spanning secret society which has operated in the shadows of international politics for more than two centuries. Despite the emphatic stance of the Iron Crown that the former King Eisenhart III's murder remains an unsolved mystery, it is popularly rumored that the Order was responsible for his death. In addition, many gross criminal acts that have transpired in the last hundred years, such as the Seidestadt killings and the ÆM chatter of 140 PF, have been attributed to them.
TO Prince Eisenhart, this assassination attempt is merely the latest in a series of tragic events that have befallen the Iron Crown. As readers may recall, His Highness is still recovering from the tragic passing of Queen Eisenhart III, his Highness's mother, as well as the rejection of his Highness's affections by the lovely Dame Capricia. Perhaps most worrying of all, Lady Elyn Kreuz Eisenhart has yet to return to the Castle after the end of her Highness's campaign in the Soleil Desert.
"PLAN abhors practice," said Sir Meridus, and indeed chance has driven the royal family of Eisenhart into a terrible melancholy. Whether the Order of the Jeweled Serpent is indeed behind the attempted assassination of his Highness the Prince, and whether fortune will see fit to take a brighter turn, only time will tell.
